Contributing to
the society, being socially useful helps us in all aspects of life. We learn to
be compassionate to others, alleviate someone’s problem, in short, we learn to
put ourselves in the other person’s shoe and help and guide them properly. Social work
flourishes our personality and brings about an overall change in the person
which actually shapes one into a true human being, who is responsible and
realizes the importance of working for the society.
I have also kept myself engaged in social work as I feel it is really important for me as a responsible citizen of my country to contribute as much as I can for its well being. I always like to lend a helping hand, but to start with it professionally, I began to teach unprivileged children of standard 8, 9 and 10 from CBSE board. I am working with the organization, 'Tribes forGOOD'. We were informed about the topics that we had to teach them and according to that, I prepared the PPT (Power Point Presentation) and started teaching. I was longing to do something like this as I am exceedingly passionate about teaching, it is something I love, so I was definitely not nervous when I had to begin, I was rather
exuberant to interact with the children.
As soon as the class began, I kept the
first five minutes just to interact with the children. I talked with them and told
them not to be a bundle of nerves, not to hesitate to ask any queries or doubts
that they may have while I would teach. We communicated in a friendly way and I
called out some names individually, enlivened the class and each one responded
really well. I knew that they would be very uncomfortable to learn anything if
I directly started teaching, the teacher has to understand the student well,
respect the student's doubt and create a comfortable and friendly relationship
with him/her. I started teaching, I was supposed to teach in Hindi language. I continued and kept asking questions at regular intervals so that they don't lose attention, they were also very eager to answer, they raised their hands for answering my questions and for any doubt that they had. At the end, I was appreciated for my slides as they were beautiful and catchy (said by the mentorπ
), this program was for a month and we (the team) graduated on 15th October.

The graduation was great as we were interviewed by an expert based on the program and
I participated in that. After that, I got to know that I have been selected as
the best performer of the program and I was offered to continue teaching for
one more year. I was very delighted to know this. I really thank ‘Tribes
forGOOD’ for giving me such a wonderful opportunity. I was very fortunate to be
a part of it and gain such a new, informative and beautiful experience which
can never be forgotten. What I observed is that these children have the
potential and the will to succeed in life, only that they need to be taught
well. They were well behaved and did not interrupt my teaching, instead, they
keenly participated in my class. It was a lovely experience and will surely
continue to be. This project was on 'Youth Employment & Education', I look
forward to working on other social issues such as 'Women Empowerment' and
working on the same as well.

I also participated in another social
event which was on 'Climate Change', this was an MUN (Model United Nations). It was through PRATYeK NGO. It was a three-day event in
which I played the role of a moderator. There were speakers and panelists (experts) from different countries and
continents. I learnt a lot from it and was a memorable experience too.
Our school also conducts SUPW (Socially
Useful & Productive Work) for children which begins from class 9. Recently
(after working with 'Tribes forGOOD'), our teacher conducted an SUPW session in
which we were told that we are supposed to teach children who are in 5th standard, the whole
class was divided into groups, so after the interaction and everything, I was
chosen as the leader of my group which consisted of five members. We all worked
equally and fairly. We wanted the presentation to be really fun for the
children, not very bookish but something which is more visual and fun to learn. We also had a quiz at the end. The topic we chose was 'Culture & Heritage of India'. I
hope it comes out well with all the fun and knowledge simultaneously.
Wow!! You are such an incredible soul. I am in awe after knowing about your endeavours for society. It is absolutely lovely to learn the way to are passionate about teaching. I also wish to say that it was wonderful to work with you in the MUN. I hope to have an extraordinary future ahead. I am in full support of more welfare work.
